Co-operative Projects with Foreign Libraries
The National Library of Russia works in collaboration and partnership with other libraries in four major areas:
- Interlibrary Loan
- International Workshops and Seminars
- Collaborative Research Projects
- Staff Training Exchange Programmes.
In addition to areas of common interest, there are specific library partnership arrangements.
The NLR maintains collaborative links with 11 library institutions outside Russia :

The National Library of the Czech Republic (Prague)

In addition to general collaborative efforts, there are specific lines:
- the National Library of Quebec delivering national bibliography on a regular and free basis
- the NLR in turn offering illustrated art books.
The State and University Library in Bremen (Germany)

- mutual support for the restitution of book collections displaced as a result of World War II.
- collaborative microfilming and scanning projects for purposes of restoration and preservation of historical collections.
- the SUB delivers to the NLR topical German, English and French monographs, the NLR in turn supplying topical Russian monographic publications.
The National Library of Poland (Warsaw)

- free access to collections in both libraries.
- mutual assistance in establishing and maintaining contacts with other institutions in both countries.
The Pomeranian Library in Stettin (Poland)

mutual information of library activities and major events and actions.
Book exchange agreement operating between the National Library of Russia and the Pomeranian Library in Stettin dates back to 1995. The yearly volume of international exchange with the Pomeranian Library makes 150 books and several journals.

Parties in separate agreements:
- initiate joint research, publishing, demonstration and other projects.
- receive one member of the other party's staff for 10 days.
- provide subscription to periodicals published in other countries by mutual request.
The British Library (London)

- special emphasis on Consortium-sponsored World Union Catalogue of Early Printed Books (incunabula)
- current feasibility studies for "Rossica" and "Britannica" manuscript database exchange
- expected NLR's contribution for the Union Catalogue of Russia-related manuscripts in the British Library (machine-readable format)
The first Russian-British seminar was held at Saint Petersburg in 2000.
In return, the second bipartite seminar took place at London in December 2001.
The third seminar was held at Saint Petersburg in 2003.
The New York Public Library (USA)

The Libraries agreed on collaboration in:
- enhancement and exchange of machine-readable catalogues of manuscript collections.
- international catalogue of 16th to 18th-century Russian Church Slavonic publications.
- a working group for database testing and research in non-catalogued document collections.
The Library of Congress (USA)

- exchange of microfilmed rare and endangered material of mutual interest
- joint Russian-American project "Meeting of Frontiers" aimed at an electronic library of explorations in Siberia and the Far East.
The National Library of Estonia
http://www.nlib.ee/?set_lang_id=2On January 1 2000, the cooperative agreement between the National Library of Russia and the National Library of Estonia came into its power. Both sides support training trips of specialists, and also assist in realization of the projects related to improvement of specialists' qualifications.
The State Library in Berlin - Prussic Culture Monument
http://staatsbibliothek-berlin.de/In June 2000 the cooperative agreement between the National Library of Russia and the State Library in Berlin was concluded. The agreement reflects Russian and German goverments' strategies regarding enduring cooperation in all fields of science and culture, not depending on legal attitude to the issue concerning location of the book funds that were displaced during the Second World War.
The joint edition of the musical manuscripts displaced during the Second World War is being planned.
